Photography

Long exposure macro photography of rose.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, one of the activities I engaged in was photography. I bought a camera and shot tons of photos. It gave me something to do during lockdown, a fun hobby that I still dig.

I shoot with a Nikon Z6, a mirrorless camera, usually with a 50mm lens. It’s great for handheld photography—light, not too big, and with excellent in-body stabilization, rated to five stops with native lenses, which are super sharp.

For processing photos, I use Capture One. This software outputs amazing color from Nikon cameras, often with no adjustment at all. For me, it’s more intuitive than other software packages, and produces superior color.

Below is a more extreme example of using Capture One to rescue a photo that was initially way too dark. The colors in the video are not correct, but watch in full screen to check it out. Click the photo below the video to see the final image with proper colors.
