About Me

Dude dude dude! I’m a neurodivergent human from Ojai, California, though I’ve lived in Croatia since 2006. Now residing in the nearly 800-year-old town of Samobor, I share the minor expanse of my existence with my awesome wife, gnarly metalhead son, and our furry friends.

Comics

I’m a color artist for comic books, a career that began in 1991.

I’ve worked for most of the larger comics publishers in the United States, but mainly for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Vertigo, Dark Horse, and Image.

I’ve done color art for Preacher, Wytches, Hawkeye, Death: The Time of Your Life, Daredevil, Hellboy, Batman, Little Bird, Catwoman, The Filth, Wolverine, Guardians of the Galaxy, and many more comics.

Punisher #9 page 8

I’ve colored over 20,000 pages. Check out a partial list of the comics I’ve worked on here.

I’ve collaborated with such fine specimens of humanity as Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Garth Ennis, Mike Mignola, J. Michael Straczynski, Christopher Nolan, Harlan Ellison, and George Romero.

You can see a list of the more than 400 creators I’ve worked with here.

I attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art straight out of high school and graduated in May of 1991. Two days after graduating, I landed my first gigs at DC and Marvel Comics and have been working for them ever since.

Writing

I studied writing during the boredom spawned by the social distancing of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of that pandemic, many schools switched to offering classes online, sometimes via Zoom, sometimes asynchronously. I took a massive course load, sometimes as many as seven classes at a time, and devoted a ton of time and effort to learning the craft of writing. Writing gave me a creative and emotional outlet.

After COVID restrictions eased, I continued studying and writing and have now completed over 50 courses at the schools listed below.

Movies

In 2003 and 2004, I attended Gnomon, a visual effects school in Hollywood. I took a heavy course load to learn what I needed to break into working on effects in movies and landed my first gig at Stan Winston Digital in April of 2004.

From 2004-2006 I took a break from comics to work on visual effects in Los Angeles, working on seven films, including Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, Serenity, and Superman Returns at Stan Winston Digital, Rhythm and Hues, and Sony Pictures Imageworks. I worked mainly as a texture painter but also did lighting and effects animation.

Beer

I started brewing beer at home in 1997 when I lived in Portland, Oregon. After joining the homebrew club the Oregon Brew Crew, I entered and judged at homebrew competitions. In 2000, as an award for winning a gold medal in Portland, I went to Widmer Brewing to brew 12 barrels of my IPA, which was called Hop Nation and was released commercially.

In 2012, I co-founded the first competition for homebrewed beer in Croatia, along with my pals Andrej Čapka and Ludo Beaurain. I was head beer judge for Croatia for seven years, and we trained beer judges who later opened commercial breweries and sparked the craft beer revolution here in Croatia. I’m also one of the original donors for Nova Runda brewery.

A gold medal from London for one of the beers I brewed. 2015.

I still brew and have brewed ~350 batches of beer. Twice a year, I join my friends at Pivovara Medvedgrad to collaborate on a commercial beer with their brewer, Božo Kostanjčar.

A crowd lines up for my beer, Dillon, a wildly popular Imperial Stout I poured at the 2017 party for Hrvatsko Homebrew Prvenstvo, the homebrew competition party we organized. I named the beer in honor of my friend and colleague Steve Dillon, who died in 2016. He loved a good stout.
